Dean McIntire in #1 and Dave King in #0, good friends though they are, fought each
other for three hours. Dean managed to get to the checkered flag in third, just
ahead of Dave in fourth. Dean's son, James, #16, finished his very first race in 14th
without even a dent. Good job James!

Starting number nine, I drove into the snow cloud at the end of the straight with no idea what cars, or even how
many, were reducing visibility to zero. Under those conditions you just hope to stay in the cloud rather than hit
those making it.

After a couple laps or three I could get a glimpse of those ahead. The number 8 Scirocco driven by Darry
Coffin (no surprise since I'd seen the turbo and intercooler under the hood before the race), was right up front
along with Brian Johnson in the number 6 Acura, and I expected they'd  be the cars to beat if I could.

So I started working at it. On lap four or five I got past the Acura. The Scirocco was another story. In about 50
years of racing quite a variety of machinery I've never had more fun. We were already lapping traffic by Lap
five. He'd get through traffic sometimes gaining on me. Sometimes I could reel him in a little. No idea if he was
even aware I was there. Finally scooted inside the Scirocco in the far corner about lap 22 and I settled in for
another Sunday drive. The little Del Sol was running fine and since it's a Honda I didn't anticipate any problems.

My mistake - I wasn't considering the Bumper Car aspect.  Or was someone using the event for Demolition
Derby practice?
